Arrest made in the shooting death of Acara Goldsmith

On November 10th 2016, Officers with the WSPD responded to the 500 block of Barbara Jane Avenue on a reported shooting. Officers located 36 year old, Acara Goldsmith, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Mr. Goldsmith was transported to Baptist Hospital where he died from his injuries from the shooting.

The murder of thirty-six year old Acara Demond Goldsmith has remained under investigation by authorities with the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. The results of that investigation indicate that Mr. Goldsmith’s death was preceded by an argument between Mr. Goldsmith and the suspect in this matter.

Detectives have charged thirty-four year old Billy Jackson Simmons III of Walkertown with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in connection with the death of Acara Goldsmith. Billy Simmons III turned himself into police custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center earlier this morning and is being held in this matter with no bond allowed.

19 year old Rakem Green murdered on Wendell Drive; Police seeking assistance in matter

Just after 8pm on November 28th, Officers with the WSPD responded to 904 Wendell Drive on a reported shooting. Officers located 19 year old Rakem Green, who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Rakem Green was transported to Baptist Hospital where he died from injuries from the shooting.

Rakem Joseph Green was a resident of Fir Street in Winston-Salem.

This case has been referred to the Criminal Investigations Division.

This the 23rd homicide for 2016 compared to 16 homicides for the period in 2015.

Kernersville Police involved in Death Investigation

Officers with the Kernersville Police Department responded to 710 McKaughan St at 7:46am on November 29th in reference to a possible death investigation. Fire, EMS, and Police are on the scene at this time. The investigation is currently ongoing, no further information was available.

 

Police release surveillance video, seeking assistance in identifying suspect in assault of Vinnie Mannino

As previously reported, at approximately 4:10 a.m. on November 15, 2016, a badly beaten and incoherent adult male was located near 770 Liberty View Court. The male was subsequently identified as thirty-nine year old Vincent “Vinnie” George Mannino.

Mr. Mannino was transported to Baptist Medical Center where he has remained hospitalized since this incident occurred.

Video surveillance footage taken in the 700 block of Liberty Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. on the morning in question is viewable below. In the surveillance video the victim can be seen walking with his cellphone in his hand, presumably playing Pokemon Go. Directly behind the victim, a male can be seen walking in the same direction as the victim. The second male appears to visually scan the area for onlookers before following the victim out of camera view. The victim was located very near the area where this surveillance video footage was gathered.
