Man Dies After Medical Incident Which Caused Wreck, Shut Down Portion of Reynolda Road

On September 21st at approximately 12:15 pm, Officers with the WSPD responded to the 2800 block of Reynolda Rd on the report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival Officers spoke with witnesses who advised that Richard Randall Maney, who appeared unconscious behind the wheel, collided into the back end of a tractor trailer at a low speed. The tractor trailer then made a right turn off of Reynolda Rd and Mr. Maney’s vehicle continued north on Reynolda Rd and came to rest against the west guardrail facing oncoming traffic.

Forsyth County EMS personnel responded and transported Mr. Maney to a local Hospital where died while undergoing medical treatment. Medical personnel advised that Mr. Maney died as a result of a medical episode and not from injuries sustained as a result of the collision. Mr. Maney was 82 years old and had been a resident of Cherrywood Road in East Bend.

This incident has not been classified as a “Fatality Vehicle Accident”. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were sustained. Traffic on northbound Reynolda Rd was not significantly impacted and southbound Reynolda Rd was down to one lane in the area for approximately 1.5 hours during the investigation.


Car, Tractor Trailer Strike and Kill Pedestrian Walking in Travel Lane on Hwy 52

Officers with the WSPD are investigating a fatal collision involving a passenger car, a tractor trailer, and a pedestrian on northbound US 52 at Highway 66 around 10 pm on September 21st.

The preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons at this time, a pedestrian was walking in the travel lanes of northbound US 52 just north of the Highway 66 interchange.

The passenger car, which was travelling northbound on US 52, struck the pedestrian. The driver did not see the pedestrian in the roadway.

A Freightliner tractor trailer was behind and to the left of the passenger car. This driver was also unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.

All drivers remained on the scene. Northbound US 52 was closed for approximately six hours during the investigation.

The pedestrian, identified as Thaddeus Ray Wall, a 33 year old from Pinnacle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Next of kin has been notified, and this incident remains under investigation by the Winston- Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.

School Bus Involved in Accident with Minor Injuries

At 8:40am on September 22nd, WSPD Officers responded to E. Northwest Blvd at Ivy Avenue on the report of a vehicle crash with injuries involving a WS/FC School Bus transporting 15 students.

The WS/FC School Bus, operated by Ms. Settle, was traveling west on E. Northwest Blvd at Ivy Avenue. A Chrysler 200, operated by Ms. Marilyn Robinson, was traveling south on Ivy Avenue at E. Northwest Blvd. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Two students were treated at the scene for minor injuries and have been released to their parents.

The driver of Chrysler 200, Ms. Robinson, was transported to Forsyth Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No additional injuries were reported.

This accident is currently under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

The School bus involved in this incident services high-school aged children that attend Reynolds High School.
