Reynolda House Museum of American Art will celebrate the 2014 holiday season with decorations throughout the historic house, after-hours candlelight tours, a performance by the Carolina Brass and a play by Truman Capote.

Through Dec. 31, the historic 1917 home of R.J. and Katharine Reynolds will be decorated with magnolia leaves, nandina berries, and other natural greenery inspired by the decorations that Katharine Reynolds might have used. Holiday greeting cards from the museum archives will be on display, and carols will be played on the original Aeolian organ Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons at approximately 2:45 p.m. Group sales for tours of the museum for eight or more visitors are available at a discount admission rate. Call 336/758.5394 to arrange a guided tour during the holiday season.

New this year, starting Dec. 4, the museum will display a full place setting of Katharine Smith Reynolds’s Tiffany & Co. china in the historic house’s dining room.

Candlelight tours of the historic house will be Thursday Dec. 4, Friday Dec. 5 and Saturday Dec. 6. Tours begin on the half-hour from 5 to 8pm, are guided by museum staff and docents, and feature stories about the Reynolds family holiday traditions, period decorations and an organist playing carols on the historic home’s original Aeolian organ

Reynolda House will present the popular Carolina Brass for a holiday concert on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:30pm From the elegance and grace of classical pieces to the hard-driving sound of the Big Band era, Carolina Brass takes audiences on a musical sleigh ride through favorites of the season. Finally, a longstanding Reynolda House holiday tradition returns, the one-woman play “A Christmas Memory” on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3pm Children and adults are sure to be warmed by Truman Capote’s tale of his own humble childhood holiday traditions.
