Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center has an immediate need for volunteers for the upcoming summer session, which runs from June 13th through August 8th. The next volunteer orientation is on Saturday, June 11th from 9:00AM to 11:30AM.
Riverwood is set to have a record number of students participating in their program this summer, and needs many more volunteers to best serve them. By donating 1 hour hour of your time each week you will truly be helping to make a difference in the lives of countless children and adults with special needs in our community.
Horse experience is welcomed but not required, as participants will learn everything they need to know during training. Volunteers serve as the foundation for the therapeutic riding program, and help make lessons safe and effective. All incoming volunteers are trained as sidewalkers, who assist students by either physically supporting them or providing encouragement and clarification throughout a lesson. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age, attend a volunteer orientation and complete required paperwork. If you have questions or are interested in registering for orientation, please contact the Riverwood office at (336) 922-6426. You may also find additional information HERE.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer but are not able to attend on Saturday, you may call the office to set up an orientation when you are available to come to the farm. Riverwood is prepared to offer orientations every day and/or evening this week.
