Stay Tuned: Eugene’s Guide to TV for November 1-7

by Eugene Sims

Now that we’re into November, premieres and debuts begin drying up like Otis Campbell spending the night in the Mayberry Jail. There’s still a trickle left and we’ll cover them right here every week.

I reserve the right to leave out reality series because they still haven’t proven to be evergreen series that entertain for a lifetime. And what I mean by that is… Reality series do not fare well in rerun syndication. So why waste your time watching crap that you’ll never revisit.

Before we get to that, lets revisit ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘The Exorcist’ on FOX.

I finally got to watch the second episodes of both series.

‘Lethal Weapon’ has all familiar trappings that the over-the-air networks use to treat viewers as if we’re all as dumb as rocks. But by golly, they deliver serious action with a few laughs here and there.

I’m still not completely convinced that it’s worth my time just yet… We’ll see when I reach my 3 episode rule.

Now ‘The Exorcist’ on the other hand really snagged me with the second episode. It was creepy and eerie without being gory. ‘The Exorcist’ kept me guessing and hit me with unexpected moments. I cannot wait to move along on that little doggie. The power of Christ compels me to watch MORE!

So here is what you need to know for the upcoming week…

Wednesday, November 2

Salem’ returns to WGN America at 9pm.

Stan Against Evil’ debuts at 10pm on IFC. The series pokes a little fun at ‘The X-Files’ series.

Friday, November 5

The Crown’ is a new drama on Netflix that examines Queen Elizabeth II’s early reign. And to me, it sounds every bit as exciting as digging for worms.

And over on Amazon, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ returns for another season. The series goes well with the younger set.

Monday, November 7

American Dad!’ is back for another unfunny season on TBS at 8:30pm.

There you have it!

And remember, if you’re going to waste your time watching television make it quality television.
