Three Crashes Involving School Busses in Three Days

The following information was provided by the Winston-Salem Police Department and is public record.

Three WS/FCS busses were involved in traffic accidents in a period of 3 days.

 

Just after 7:30am on December 12th, Officers with the WSPD investigated a traffic collision at the intersection of Oak Street and Holly Court, involving a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school bus.

The school bus, operated by Mr. Buddy Lash, was traveling south on Oak Street as a passenger car, operated by Mr. Earl Lyles, made a right-hand turn from Holly Court. The two vehicles then had a minor collision in the intersection.

The school bus services Mineral Springs Elementary School and a total of 8 students were on board. There were no injuries were reported.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed at this time.

At 7:21 am on December 13th, Officers with the WSPD investigated a traffic collision in the 5400 block of Countryside Drive, involving a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school bus.

The school bus, operated by Mr. Kevin McCoy, was slowing to a stop on Countryside Drive when a passenger-car, operated by Mr. Jordan Nichols, did not stop his vehicle in time and collided with the rear of the school bus.

The school bus services Mineral Springs Elementary School and a total of 40 students were on board. There were no injuries reported.

The school bus was not in the process of discharging or picking up students at the time of the collision.

Mr. Nichols has been cited for the following minor traffic violations:
1. Following another vehicle too closely.
2. No operator’s license.

On December 14th, at approximately 7:33 AM, officers with the WSPD investigated a traffic collision that occurred at the intersection of Whittier Road and Legare Drive, which involved a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school bus and a passenger car.

The school bus was operated by Ms. Kimrey Owens and the passenger-car was operated by Ms. Gilia Hager. The cause of the collision is still under investigation but there were no reported injuries. No charges have been filed in this collision.

The school bus services Ibraham Elementary School and a total of 9 students were on board.

The school bus was not in the process of discharging or picking up students at the time of the collision.
