Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools announced the 2016-17 Principal of the Year on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Brad Craddock, principal of Glenn High School, has been chosen to represent the school district in the Wells Fargo Principal of the Year program.
Craddock has been the principal at Glenn High School since 2009. From 2005 to 2009, he was the principal of the School of Computer Technology at Atkins Academic & Technology High School, and, from 1999 to 2005, he was an assistant principal at Carver High School.
Craddock earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education at Guilford College in 1990 and a master’s degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University. He earned his educational specialist (Ed. S.) degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2013.
The announcement was made at a breakfast sponsored by Truliant Federal Credit Union. Truliant also provides a monetary award for the principal and the principal’s school.
Since 1984, Wells Fargo Bank has financially supported the statewide program in collaboration with the Department of Public Instruction to recognize outstanding principals from North Carolina public schools.
The Principal of the Year awards program recognizes principals at the local, regional, and statewide levels. To advance in competition, the nominee must prepare an in-depth written portfolio for review by a selection committee in each education region.
Craddock was one of 5 finalists chosen from nominated principals. Other finalists included:

Essie McKoy, Philo-Hill Magnet Acaademy
Neil Raymer, Meadowlark Elementary School
Ed Weiss, Mount Tabor High School
