For the Record: Two Injured in Shooting on New Hope Lane

The following was provided for your information by the Winston-Salem Police Department and is public record.

Just before 10pm on February 14th, officers with the WSPD heard several gunshots in the area of New Hope Lane apartments. As they responded to the area they located the two listed victims in the area of 923 New Hope Lane suffering from gunshot wounds.

Interviews with the victims and an independent witness were conducted on scene prior to the victims being transported to Baptist Hospital. During the initial investigation it was determined that all parties involved had been in an ongoing argument. The suspect followed the victim’s home to New Hope Lane, where he shot both victims.

The victims, Deshawn McClellan, 28 years old, and Sontaria Valentine, 25 years old, were transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Mr. McClellan was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Mrs. Valentine is in critical condition.

Criminal Investigation Division was notified and assumed the investigation. The suspect is described only as a black male about 20-25 years old.

18 year old dies playing Russian Roulette

The following was provided for your information from the Winston-Salem Police Department and is public information.

On April 17, 2017, WSPD Officers responded to 2810 Reid Street after receiving information that someone had sustained a gunshot wound, possibly self-inflicted, at this location.

Officers located 18 year old Diante James Blackburn unresponsive, inside the living room of the residence, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his head. He was transported by ambulance to North Carolina Baptist Medical Center where he succumbed to the injury.

A small caliber revolver was located within the same room Mr. Blackburn was found. Multiple witnesses were in the room at the time of this incident. No one else was injured during this incident.

Criminal Investigation Division detectives responded to the scene and assumed this investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Blackburn’s injury is the result of playing Russian Roulette. Detectives do not suspect foul play however; this investigation is ongoing.

Cyclist Found Injured on Ransom Road, Police Request Help Finding Information

The following was provided by the Winston-Salem Police Department

On April 20, 2017 officers were called to the scene of a bicycle crash in the 600 block of Ransom Road (near the Loch Road entrance to the Town and Country neighborhood, just off of Polo Road.)

A cyclist riding a black bicycle (mountain bicycle/commuter type) was found lying in the road, unconscious.

The cyclist was taken to an area medical facility for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. At this time it is unclear if a vehicle actually struck the cyclist.

The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit responded and assumed this investigation and will conduct any necessary follow up.

The Winston-Salem Police Department is soliciting information from anybody that may have been in the area, or may have knowledge of any pertinent details that would assist in the investigation.

Man Hit by Train in Curious Incident in Kernersville

On Monday March 27th , 2017 the Kernersville Police Department responded to a reported collision involving a Norfolk Southern Locomotive and an individual on a section of railroad tracks. The incident did not occur in or around a designated railroad crossing but rather occurred on the railroad tracks in the 300-Block of East Bodenhamer Street behind several businesses.

The individual was reportedly laying on the railroad tracks just prior to the collision, and has been identified as 27-year-old Mike Gonzalez Quiroz of Kernersville.

Mr. Quiroz was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with life threatening injuries and is currently listed in serious critical condition. The cause and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. Norfolk Southern is assisting with the investigation.
